Think Before Making Actions
“The Secret Life Of The American Teenager” is a show that gives teens the idea of life before, during, and after a teen pregnancy. This is a major event because so many teens end up pregnant every year, not accident, which leads to a whole line of events that make them feel uncomfortable. Telling their parents, going through judgments from classmates and friends, being misjudged, going along with rumors, dealing with the father, missing school, and being dumped by friends. These are all problems that lead to the character, Amy Juergens, in the show.
It is hard for Amy to deal with her life before the baby. The one theme, before the baby, is to think before you act. Amy was a 15-year-old girl, in high school, who didn’t really know how to deal with her emotions. She went to band camp, which ended up with a dreadful ending. Her boyfriend, Ricky, at the time, and Amy made a big mistake, which resulted in a teen pregnancy. She never realized how much stress it would pile on to her, until she actually lived through it. Also being judged by her friends and their parents was a factor. Not only was the stress of other people having effect on her, but the thought of what to do with the baby after it was born was a distant thought. Giving it up for adoption was one option, or keeping it and caring for it, was another. She had so much stress to deal with, which is always hard, but if she would have stayed out of trouble in the beginning, she could have lived a normal life, and gone along with it.
This is what makes one of her life lessons turn into thinking before you act because you don’t realize the after mass, until it has actually happened to you.
