Pre College

 

The day of February 17, 1963 was the day that basketball changed forever. It was the day that basketball changed forever. It was the day that Michael Jordan was born. It was no surprise that in 1965 Michael was already starting to test his many skills. As legend has it, he is nearly electrocuted when he escapes his playpen and investigates an extension cord running from the kitchen to the outside, where his father was tuning up a car in the rain: A surge of current sends the toddler flying about three feet. He has already tested gravity at age 2. As a child Michael played two sports, basketball, and baseball. Surprisingly he was better at baseball. In 1975 the Dixie Youth Baseball Association named Michael Mr. Baseball among North Carolina 12-year-olds. Then he also received a scholarship to attend the Michkey owen baseball camp. a few years later, in middle school, he was named outstanding Athlete at his school. Finally he was attending high school, where soon to be superstars in college could shine. However as a 5’9’’ sophomore, he is the last player cut from the varsity basketball team. With his love for basketball he tried again the next year and he made it. The year after that he was selected to play in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American Game, scoring a then-record 30 points . After four years of high school, he graduates with a 3.3 GPA.  
     
 

College

 
  One of North Carolina’s (Tar Heels) most important dates was on April 8, 1981 when Michael signed a letter of intent to play college basketball at UNC. By tis time Michael already was as competitive as anyone. He didn’t want to be treated like a Freshman either. He proved that he had more skill than freshman when he made the shot against Georgetown that helped UNC win the ’82 championship at the moment he arrived. Michael became more of a scorer by creating things of his own, and at the same time he played within the team chemistry that the coach wanted. Perhaps Michael’s greatest game was in January ’84 when they played Maryland ad he unveiled his windmill dunk. During Michael’s three years at UNc, Jordan averaged 17.7 ppg and received such honors a ACC Freshman of the year, All-American, his sophomore and junior , the Wooden award, and the Naismith award.
