Childhood

Born Toby Keith Covel on July 8, 1961 in Clinton, Oklahoma. His grandmother owned a supper club in Arkansas where he became interested in the musicians who came to play. After graduating from Moore High School in 1979 Toby went to went to work as a derrick hand in the booming oil field. He would later go on to become a project manager. Once the oil industry began to decline Toby went back to his football roots and played Defensive End for the semi-pro Oklahoma City Drillers.
